A14 autobahn bridge, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Construction of the new 507m-long Elde Valley Bridge
The construction of the A14 autobahn is of particular significance as a north-south project and as a port connection for the cities of Lubeck, Rostock und Wismar. A final section of two-lane autobahn of length almost 11 km was required to complete the connection between Wismar and Magdeburg. It includes nine bridges, some designed as overpasses and some as underpasses, a wild animal crossing and the almost 507m-long Elde Valley Bridge which crosses three watercourses. As one of the biggest bridges in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, this structure carries the A14 on large-diameter bored piles across the Alte Elde river, the valley and the Elde-Müritz Canal
Span lengths: 36 – 55 – 42.5 – 52 – 78 – 52 – 37 – 2 x 29 – 2 x 26 – 23.5 – 20.5 = 506.5 m
