As General Planner, Inros Lackner played a major role in the design and construction of the new 50Hertz head office, the so-called “Netzquartier”, in Berlin’s Europacity district. A building that exemplifies the current building culture in Germany and has received several awards for its special merits. One such award was received in October 2018 at the German Steel Construction Awards, held at the Steel Architecture / German Steel Construction Fair in Duisburg.
The office building for about 650 employees is the group's German headquarters. The building was designed by the Austrian architectural firm LOVE architecture & urbanism. The grid-like external structure (diagrid) that defines the building’s external appearance placed special demands in relation to the structural design, creating a clear connection between engineering design and architecture. The building also sets new standards for modern and sustainable construction practice. The overall project was awarded Gold certifications by both DGNB and LEED, the leading sustainability certification systems. Furthermore, the building became the first in the world to be awarded DGNB Diamond certification.
