Living and working beside the water
“Our designs put people at the centre while creatively integrating the natural environment. We like to blend the design diversity of architecture with the requirements of modern Inros Lackner engineering projects.”
Torsten Illgen Architekt, Architect and Managing Director of INROS LACKNER Vietnam
Living and working by the water fascinates many people. Proximity to the water exerts a special attraction due to its calmness, its dynamic nature and the way it reflects the light. A current design for a property in a flood-risk area of Bremen shows how a building can be seamlessly integrated into the terrain and its water, emphasising the region’s maritime character while creating a modern working and living environment – without having to rely on conventional flood protection measures such as walls or dykes.
The project’s use of forms is based on the image of a white ship, resulting in a building complex that reflects Bremen’s maritime tradition while also offering contemporary living and working conditions. The direct views of the water and access to it are at the centre of the design. This approach makes it possible to strengthen the connection between indoor and outdoor space and to experience life on the water in an unconventional way. The concept goes beyond purely functional solutions, taking not only practical requirements into account but also the desire for a harmonious, water-oriented living and working space.
