Coastal protection project in Tunisia
German ambassador visits KfW Development Bank project on the Mediterranean

At the end of November 2017, the German ambassador to Tunisia, Dr. Andreas Reinicke, together with the director of the KfW Development Bank’s Tunisian office, Sven Neunsinger, visited and inaugurated a coastal protection project on the island of Kerkennah in the Mediterranean Sea.

Inros Lackner has been working since 2013 on the KfW coastal protection project “Programme de Protection du Littoral Tunisien (PPLT)”, and providing technical support to the national coastal protection authority, “L'Agence de Protection et d'Aménagement du Littoral (APAL)”. Services provided include planning and design of coastal protection measures over a total length of approximately 27 km, including on the island of Kerkennah and along the east coast, and associated construction supervision services. The project also includes dune stabilisation works at five locations, with a total length of 4 km. The project has a budget of approximately 30.5 million euro, and Phase II is expected to be completed at the end of 2018.

In mid-December 2017, five employees of the Tunisian coastal protection authority will come to Bremen for training. While in Germany, the coastal protection specialists will focus on the construction, operation and maintenance of coastal protection and erosion prevention measures.
