Fish ladder in Schwerin
Construction work on the new fish ladder at the Pfaffenteich weir in Schwerin will begin in April 2025. The aim of the project is to improve the ecological continuity of the Aubach system and allow fish and microorganisms to move unhindered between Ziegelinnensee and Pfaffenteich. Until now, the migration route of species such as burbot, sea trout and river lamprey has ended at the Pfaffenteich weir.
Initial preparatory measures, including the removal of some trees for construction purposes, began as early as January. These interventions will be offset by compensatory measures. As general planner, Inros Lackner is responsible on behalf of the ‘Schweriner See/Obere Sude’ water and soil association for the project and structural planning, hydraulic calculations, environmental planning services and construction supervision. Special consideration is being given to the neighbouring, listed Eichhaus, which has been incorporated into the planning process. To ensure the facility blends harmoniously into its surroundings, all visible surfaces of the fish ladder facility will faced with clinker or natural stone.
The planned completion of the plant in 2027 will make a significant contribution to the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive and the German Water Resources Act. The construction costs amount to 4.2 million euros, 90 per cent of which will be funded by the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
