Tunnel extension in Hamburg

Grand opening ceremony

In Hamburg's Vogelkamp-Neugraben residential area, a new barrier-free pedestrian subway provides additional access to the Hamburg-Neugraben S-Bahn station. At the beginning of July, after a construction period of just 15 months, the extension of the tunnel subway was officially opened.

Inros Lackner was responsible for the project management of this challenging project on behalf of IBA Hamburg. The tunnel was completely prefabricated at the side of the tracks and pushed in underneath auxiliary bridges. For this purpose, the tunnel section weighing approx. 160 tonnes was lifted hydraulically and moved into its final position on two shunting tracks. This was followed by the wall breakthrough to the existing tunnel, which was also renovated as part of this project. Both parts of the tunnel were designed and decorated by graffiti artist 1010. The artwork was selected by a jury consisting of representatives of IBA Hamburg, DB and residents of the neighbourhood.
