Green and Smart
Ho Chi Minh City, July 2026: How can industrial parks be adapted to meet the requirements of international investors, global supply chains and climate targets? This was the question addressed at the workshop ‘Greening Industrial Parks in Vietnam’, to which the Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC) invited national and international experts. The focus was on strategies for the sustainable transformation of industrial parks, as well as new planning approaches for resilient and future-proof sites.
Torsten Illgen, Managing Director of Inros Lackner Vietnam, contributed his many years of international experience in the planning of complex building and infrastructure projects to the discussion. It became clear that ESG criteria, climate adaptation, resource efficiency and smart infrastructure are increasingly becoming decisive factors for the international competitiveness of industrial sites.
"Sustainable industrial parks are created through integrated planning approach right from the start. For example, forward-looking water and rainwater management plays a key role in minimising flood risks and ensuring the long-term resilience of industrial sites,” explained Torsten Illgen during the panel discussion.
A pioneering example is Silverlake Bio High-Tech Park in Hanoi, one of Vietnam's five designated high-tech model parks. Inros Lackner Vietnam is supporting the project through integrated master planning in collaboration with architect Tadao Ando, alongside infrastructure planning, landscape design and the development of sustainability strategies. Silverlake brings together science and urban life in a social environment featuring walkable neighbourhoods, extensive green spaces, and a mix of research institutes, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, logistics, residential areas and commercial uses. These elements are connected by a Central Park that forms the heart of the development. Projects such as Silverlake demonstrate that the industrial parks of the future can be far more than production sites. They are resilient, liveable ecosystems designed to attract talent, foster innovation and support sustainable economic growth.
At the workshop, further projects were presented, along with the LOTUS Industrial Park Standard and innovative approaches to energy efficiency, digitalisation, intelligent operations management and the integration of renewable energy solutions.
