Flood protection project in the Alb-Donau district

Groundbreaking ceremony

A symbolic groundbreaking ceremony on 5 November marked the start of the flood protection project along the Blau river in Blaustein. Planned and supervised by Inros Lackner, this project aims to protect the city from severe flood events, such as the one in 1988, when large parts of the town were flooded and severely damaged.

Inros Lackner conducted a comprehensive investigation of the river basin to identify weaknesses along the Blau. The resulting package of measures includes levees, walls, mobile protective elements, and a flood channel. Additionally, three sluice structures will be constructed to regulate water flow. This will create 2.7 kilometres of protection against a hundred-year flood event.

The project is jointly funded by the state of Baden-Württemberg and the city of Blaustein. Inros Lackner is responsible not only for the planning but also for the construction supervision until the project's planned completion in spring 2026. During the ground-breaking ceremony, representatives from the government and the city emphasised the importance of forward-looking infrastructure planning in light of climate change and increasing extreme weather events.
