Onshore power supply system

Low-emission port infrastructure

Rendsburg, November 2025: On 12 November 2025, a ceremonial inauguration aboard the historic steamship Freya marked a significant milestone for the Port of Rendsburg in Schleswig-Holstein: the new onshore power supply system for docked ships officially went into operation. Together with the new electrically powered harbour crane and the modernised quay wall, it contributes to improving the port’s sustainability and efficiency.

Since 2022, the interdisciplinary team at Inros Lackner has been supporting the project with consulting, planning, design and tendering services – including for the integration of the charging infrastructure and the new crane into the existing port facilities and for the modernisation and repair of the quay wall.

The new onshore power supply system comprises twelve 125-amp low-voltage connections for cargo ships and two 400-amp connections for passenger ships. A modern payment system also facilitates fully automated operation without manual activation. In parallel, the new electrically powered harbour crane of the company Mantsinen will further increase cargo-handling capacity.

These measures will significantly improve the carbon footprint of Rendsburg Port, which handles over 550,000 tonnes of goods annually – while also reducing its noise and pollutant emissions.
