Infrastructure expansion

Major project in Sierra Leone

The "Bandajuma-Liberia Border Road and Bridges" project, supported by the European Union, has been successfully completed. The aim was to improve the transport infrastructure and strengthen the cross-border connection between Sierra Leone and Liberia. With a budget of 105 million euros, it is the largest EU-funded project in Sierra Leone. It includes the expansion of 100 kilometres of road and the construction of three new bridges over the Sewa, Wanjie and Moa rivers. Of particular note is the new Sewa Bridge, a composite bridge that meets current traffic flow and future requirements.

The successful completion not only improves Sierra Leone's road network, but also opens the main gateway to Liberia. This re-establishes an important link between the countries. The journey time from Bandajuma to the border with Liberia has been reduced from several days or even impassable to just 2 hours. In addition, schools, community centres, health stations and other facilities were built as part of accompanying social measures. Inros Lackner was part of this important project, together with the EU delegation in Sierra Leone, the national approval authority, the Sierra Leone Roads Authority and other participating companies such as Groupe CSE.
