Port Autonome de Lomé

Lomé, August 2026: On behalf of the Port Autonome de Lomé INROS LACKNER Togo was responsible for the investigations, design, tendering and construction supervision. An underwater inspection in late 2023 revealed significant damage to two dolphins. Four of the five piles supporting the first dolphin had fractured approximately 2.5 metres above the seabed. The second dolphin was also severely damaged: its platform had already rotated and was at risk of collapsing into the harbour basin. Inros Lackner developed the technical solution using high-strength, single-wall steel pipe piles – designed in accordance with European standards. The new piles were fabricated in Shanghai and were monitored by our team right from the manufacturing stage.

Works on site began in April 2026.  In May, the two new piles were driven into the seabed. This was followed by the assembly of the steel structure, the installation of the conical fender and the fitting of sacrificial anodes as part of the cathodic corrosion protection system. In less than 60 working days, both dolphins had been fully renewed. The technical handover took place in early June 2026. Just one day later, the first ships were able to moor at the oil jetty again – two days ahead of the schedule communicated to the operators. This means that a piece of port infrastructure vital to the region’s supply chain is once again fully operational.
