Completion of onshore power supply systems

PORT OF KIEL

Kiel, September 2025: The Port of Kiel has successfully completed the expansion of its onshore power supply infrastructure, making it one of the world's leading ports in this respect. At the Ostsee Quay, three cruise ships and four ferries can now be simultaneously supplied with emission-free power from the onshore systems.

Inros Lackner, a long-standing planning and design partner, played a key role in the project. Our team was responsible for the basic evaluation and preliminary design as well as planning the contract award process and the site supervision, and also contributed technical expertise during the construction phase. Inros Lackner had already successfully implemented plans for the expansion of the onshore power supply system in the Ostuferhafen part of the port, paving the way for this latest project.

Since 2019, the Port of Kiel has been providing seagoing vessels with green electricity while docked in the port, and has already reduced ship emissions by 60 per cent. By 2026, around 80 per cent of all ships are expected to use onshore power supply systems – a significant contribution to achieving climate targets.
