Redevelopment of shipyard basin

Rostock, June 2026: The symbolic first “pile driving” on 11 June 2026 marked the official start of the redevelopment of the former shipyard basin in Warnemünde. Inros Lackner, in the role of General Planner, is responsible for this ambitious construction project, from the feasibility study to implementation, on behalf of the City of Rostock as represented by its port authority. Working together with numerous companies and specialists from the region, unused shipyard areas will be adapted or renovated and modern quay facilities and business park infrastructure will be created for future users.

The official start of construction was celebrated with Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Minister-President Manuela Schwesig, Rostock's Mayor Eva-Maria Kröger, and numerous project stakeholders and guests. With an investment value of over €100 million, it is the second-largest infrastructure project in the recent history of Rostock’s port. In her speech, the Minister-President emphasised the project's importance for the maritime industry and the energy transition: "The state government is supporting the project with €78.3 million because it creates the conditions for new investments, high-quality jobs and sustainable value creation." Mayor Eva-Maria Kröger also sees the project as a strong sign of the region's structural transformation: "Where ships were once built, areas for future technologies are now being developed. With attractive commercial space, direct access to the quayside and excellent development opportunities, Rostock is gaining another high-quality location for innovative companies and the maritime industry."

For over six decades, Inros Lackner has been contributing to the development of maritime infrastructure in Rostock and the surrounding region. Projects include the local cruise terminal with onshore power supply system, the development of general cargo and bulk cargo terminals, the oil port, the Liebherr site in the overseas port, and numerous projects in the city harbour. "With the redevelopment of the shipyard basin, we are building on this long-standing experience," said Project Manager Tobias Günzl. “We are delighted, working together with our clients and project partners, to be helping implement this transformation from shipyard to future-oriented business park.”

Other planning and design partners include Baugrund Stralsund Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, Plan Akzent Rostock and UGB Genehmigungsmanagement GmbH. Construction will be carried out by the consortium ARGE Züblin, Döhring GmbH, SDL City Baumanagement and STRABAG AG.
