Roads for the future
Roads are the backbone for the transportation of goods in Cambodia. In rural areas, they connect communities and villages to provincial towns and help farmers market their agricultural products. Wider road profiles enable truck transport to individual farms. Elevation and improved road structures with an asphalt top layer make them more resilient to increasing extreme weather events.
On behalf of the Cambodian Ministry of Rural Development, Inros Lackner has been supporting the "Rural Infrastructure Development Programme for Cambodia" (RID4CAM) project together with GITEC-IGIP GmbH since 2022. By 2027, 500 kilometers of rural roads in the northern provinces of Preah Vihear, Siem Reap, and Battambang will be rehabilitated and expanded. In the last two years, the first project sections have already been successfully completed. In the provinces of Preah Vihear and Siem Reap, water supply systems are being installed as part of the project, providing 1,000 households with access to clean drinking water.
Our international team is responsible for conducting the necessary local investigations, design, tendering and supervising the construction. In the project, we ensure that the high ESHS (Environment, Social, Health, Safety) standards of the international financing institutions are adhered to during the implementation of the project.
"This project is a significant step towards improving living conditions in the rural regions of Cambodia. It connects people and markets and lays the foundation for a sustainable economic development," said Torsten Retzlaff, Managing Director of Inros Lackner SE, during his visit to the project in Cambodia. "We are proud to contribute to its success with our interdisciplinary team."
