VW Logistics centre, Braunschweig

Construction of a new logistics optimisation centre

After just 15 months of construction time, the new VW logistics centre near Braunschweig was opened. The main building, with an area of approximately 50,000 m2, was built to bring together the 13 previously existing storage facilities of Volkswagen’s Braunschweig works. The centre also features 1,500 m2 of offices and personnel/recreation rooms for company employees, and 33,500 m2 of paved open areas, roads and parking. The logistics halls are divided, in accordance with the designed fire compartmentalisation, into four heated halls and four unheated halls (which are also completely enclosed for noise protection purposes). In the unheated halls, there is inventory turnover of approximately 25 truckloads per hour and a 360-metre goods train per day. Inros Lackner was responsible for the project in the role of General Planner.
