Main building with renewable energy system
The new building of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce – the Ludwig Bölkow House – is characterised by its sophisticated architecture but practical and flexible construction. This imposing structure in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern also features an impressive renewable energy system. The building’s structurally required piled foundations were used in providing the building with a geothermal energy supply.
The foundation piles were installed as “energy piles”, featuring an integrated heat exchange system which is connected to the building’s heating and cooling system. This enables the subsoil to be used to supply natural heat in winter and for process cooling and gentle air conditioning in summer. This use of geothermal energy covers the building’s heating and cooling energy needs, and CO2 emissions are significantly reduced. Inros Lackner participated on the project in the role of General Planner.
