Vogelsang-Gommern Hospital, Sachsen-Anhalt
Modernisation and extension

The hospital’s specialised orthopaedics and rheumatology clinic, with its centre for cartilage and bone cell transplantation, was reconstructed and extended in several phases. The nursing departments, with approximately 120 beds, were adapted to suit current medical and construction quality standards, considering preservation constraints. A new functional two-storey building, partly with an underground level, was planned and designed with a reinforced concrete frame. This building connects to the existing building via a two-level passage. New operating, x-ray and sterilisation facilities were also provided, as were recovery, minor procedure and autologous blood donation facilities, a movement therapy pool, a cold chamber and all required ancillary facilities. The energy supply system of the building and the external property, with main and sub-distributions and both general and back-up systems, also comprised part of the scope of work.
