Schönbuch Railway, Baden-Württemberg

Until the expansion and electrification of the railway line between 2017 and 2019, the Schönbuchbahn was a single-track railway line. Over a length of approx. 17 km, the line was upgraded to double track and electrified, the superstructure was renovated and stops were renewed. In four planning approval sections, extensive avoidance, protection and compensation measures were implemented, and species protection measures were also required. The environmental planning department of the Stuttgart branch provided technical support in the form of ecological construction supervision. After completion of the compensation and replacement measures, which include habitats for reptiles, amphibians, mammals and birds as well as compensation plantings, these measures were also controlled in the form of monitoring.
