Motorway bridge, Saxony

Replacement of the 361 m long Mulde bridge

The bridge on the A14 motorway over the Vereinigte Mulde north of the town of Grimma was built in 1970 as a steel composite bridge with a total length of 361 m. The maintenance work, which was carried out at ever shorter intervals, combined with the steadily increasing volume of traffic and the proportion of heavy goods vehicles, made it necessary to build a new bridge. It was recommended that the new structure be built in the existing position as a superstructure on auxiliary supports next to the existing structure and then transversely shifted into the final position after the second superstructure and the substructures had been built. Inros Lackner was commissioned with various planning services. A special feature is the nature conservation framework conditions. The bridge crosses very sensitive areas such as Natura 2000 areas and a nature reserve.
