Salvador Allende Bridge, Berlin
Completion of a 3-bay replacement building
The new Salvador Allende Bridge carries a 4-lane highly frequented city road and serves as the main connection across the Müggelspree in south-east Berlin. The old 136 m long prestressed concrete structure was built in 1981 and had to be replaced due to increasing cracking. The 3-span and 129 metre long new replacement structure was planned as a 2-span steel bridge with box girders and orthotropic steel deck. The existing use and division of the road space including footpaths and cycle paths on both sides was retained and additional turning lanes were integrated in the junction areas. Inros Lackner was responsible for the planning of the bridge including the traffic engineering.
