Railway hub, Magdeburg
Redesign of the main train station
During the second phase of a major redevelopment project, Magdeburg’s main train station was redesigned with the goal of substantially improving its operation as a regional railway hub. Train speeds entering and exiting the station were increased, and shunting operations were optimised by redesigning the track layout. In this phase alone, more than 100 switch points were made redundant. Inros Lackner’s planning and design responsibilities related to the upgrading and new construction of tracks and switch points, the construction of new passenger and freight lifts, stairs and platform roofs, the optimisation of track layout, and the associated modifications to overhead contact lines.
