Coastal Highway, Sierra Leone
The Bandajuma-Liberia Border Road and Bridges project is supported by the European Union and aims to improve transport infrastructure while strengthening cross-border connectivity between Sierra Leone and Liberia. The aim of the project was to promote trade and regional cooperation within the Mano River Union. As part of the project, 100 kilometres of roads between Sierra Leone and Liberia were upgraded and three new bridges were built over the Sewa, Wanjie and Moa rivers.
The successful completion of this infrastructure project has not only significantly improved Sierra Leone's interregional road network and restored a key transport axis to Liberia. The positive effects are already clearly noticeable: whereas the route from Bandajuma to the border with Liberia was often impassable or took several days to complete, it can now be covered in just two hours. In addition to the transport improvements, six schools, twelve community and youth centres, six health and maternity stations, two marketplaces and 16 wells or water tanks were built as part of accompanying social measures. Inros Lackner was part of this significant infrastructure project, which was implemented in collaboration with the National Approval Authority, the Sierra Leone Roads Authority and the companies involved, including Groupe CSE.
