Elbchaussee, Hamburg

Copenhagen Cycle Paths Pilot Project

The Hamburg Elbchaussee connects the Hamburg districts of Ottensen and Blankenese along the Elbe. This popular road and busy excursion route is being rehabilitated and adapted to traffic requirements. The reconstruction of the 3.9 km long section involves a basic repair of the roadway, the ancillary facilities and an optimisation of the cycle path routing. For the first time in the Hanseatic city, so-called "Copenhagen cycle lanes" with separate on-board facilities between the carriageway and the pavement are planned for a longer section. Additional crossing possibilities with traffic lights increase traffic safety for pedestrians. The high-quality tree population was protected during the construction work. Inros Lackner was commissioned in a consortium with the planning, public participation and coordination of the construction phases.
