Reconstruction with additional lanes
The capacity of the A49 autobahn between Kassel and the A5 autobahn required to be increased in order to relieve traffic pressure on connecting roads such as the A7, A5 and B254. Planning and design services were provided for the construction of a new four-lane stretch of autobahn with a special “SQ 27” cross-section in the Schwalmstadt area and including the “Frankenhain” tunnel section. This area includes the catchment area for the Rückershausen spring, with drinking water protection zones of class II and III. The planning and design services related to, among other items, the new stretch of autobahn, relocation of other streets as required, tunnel emergency access, two stormwater retention basins, agricultural roads, cycle paths, road drainage, and the design of all drainage facilities.
