Leading light line, Hamburg

New construction of rear and front lights

The Elbe fairway, the part used for maritime navigation, is being deepened from Hamburg to the mouth of the Elbe and widened in some places to allow two large ships to meet optimally. In the course of this fairway adjustment, the Blankenese leading light line is shifting and has required a new construction of the associated rear and front lights. The two old lighthouses were demolished except for the platform of the old front range, which is to remain accessible to visitors. The new front light was erected to the east of the Blankenese jetty with a viewing platform and about 1,100 m to the east is the new rear light at the Mühlenberg marina next to the Elbe shore path. Both lighthouses were successfully put into operation. The new rear light is the fourth highest lighthouse in Germany.
