Damietta port, Egypt
A technologically advanced container terminal with a planned annual capacity of 3.3 million TEU is currently under construction at the Port of Damietta, with Damietta Alliance Container Terminal S.A.E. established as a joint venture to oversee its planning, construction, and operation. The alliance’s principal shareholders are Hapag-Lloyd Damietta GmbH, Eurogate Damietta GmbH and Contship Damietta Srl – all highly experienced companies in international port and terminal operations. The project covers a total area of approximately 92 hectares and comprises a wide range of technical and logistical components. Inros Lackner has been appointed to provide general planning and construction supervision services. The scope of services includes hydraulic engineering works such as quay structures and harbour protection systems, modern administrative and operational buildings, efficient road and rail connections, as well as a reliable energy supply and digital infrastructure.
Particular emphasis is placed on the integration of advanced IT systems to automate and optimise terminal operations. The objective is to ensure smooth, efficient and future-proof container handling. The terminal will play a central role as a strategic transhipment hub in the eastern Mediterranean, significantly improving access to the Egyptian market and, in particular, the surrounding regions. Its connection to international maritime traffic flows and the national hinterland network will help to strengthen global supply chains and contribute to the economic development of the site.
