Port of Cotonou, Benin

As part of the Port Master Plan 2021–2026, the Port of Cotonou in Benin has launched an extensive investment programme to modernise its port infrastructure, expand capacity and improve service quality. The development plan comprises a total of twelve strategic individual projects, the central one being the construction of a new multifunctional terminal (T5) in the eastern port area. The new terminal will be developed on an area of around 20 hectares and is designed to handle both bulk cargo and general cargo. This should significantly relieve the existing facilities.

Inros Lackner Togo has been involved in this project since 2021 and is responsible for construction supervision and technical assistance. The work includes extending the western main pier by 350 metres, constructing a 550-metre-long quay and creating a 21-hectare open storage area. In addition, the harbour basin will be deepened and the turning circle extended to 550 metres. These measures will enable a significant increase in the port's annual handling capacity and at the same time promote Cotonou's integration into regional and international transport and supply chains. The implementation follows a sustainable infrastructure approach that takes both technical and environmental standards into account.
