Seaport Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan

After six years of planning and construction, the Turkmenbashi International Port on the Caspian Sea in Turkmenistan was opened for shipping traffic. Inros Lackner was responsible for the planning, tendering and construction supervision as general planner. New ferry, passenger, general cargo, bulk cargo and container terminals were built on a total area of more than 130 ha. In addition, an existing railway ferry port was modernised and a complete shipyard including a ship lift was built. The planned annual handling capacity of the port is about 17 million tonnes. With a total investment of about 1.5 billion USD, it is one of the largest port construction projects in Central Asia. The port was planned according to "Green Port" standards in order to respect the sensitive ecosystem of the world’s largest inland sea.
