Dry dock, Brunsbuettel

New building with berths for reserve gates

The lock facilities in Brunsbüttel and Kiel-Holtenau together ensure the operation and shipping traffic in the Kiel Canal, one of the busiest artificial sea lanes in the world. A gate maintenance dock with a hall will be built for the maintenance and repair of the lock gates. The immediately adjacent bank enclosures will serve on the one hand as berths for reserve gates and on the other hand as enclosures for the new partial filling of the operating harbor. This will create new areas of approx. 6,500 m², which will be equipped with heavy-duty slabs to accommodate high-performance handling equipment. The dry dock is planned to be covered by a hall with an integrated bridge crane. Due to the coupling of the dock with the gate berth, a deformation calculation of the entire system was carried out, taking into account the structure-soil interaction, in order to prove the serviceability of the bridge crane.
